About Us
If There is Wind, We are Sailing
You know there's something magical about Langkawi when people arrive
for a holiday and continue to stay on. That happened to Jamie Allan Scott,
who is still on Langkawi, after 19 years. He is now the owner and managing
director of Crystal Yacht Holidays, running the sailing yacht cruises
and charter business with his Japanese wife, Ryoko.
This affable Canadian, who speaks more than five languages, used to run backpacker charters with his first 45-foot yacht where he'd sail from Langkawi to Thailand's Phuket or Krabi. These charters were free and easy yet breathtaking for backpackers, with leisurely stopovers at remote islands in between.
With an easy grin, Jamie says they still operate the same route, but not for backpackers anymore. You can experience the same enthralling route now as a private overnight cruise.
When Ryoko arrived in 1993, they bought a 42-foot yacht, christened "Crystal Dancer" after selling off the backpacker yacht.
With their "baby" Crystal Dancer, Jamie and Ryoko began arranging exclusive cruises and charters for guests of the nearby luxury five-star resorts in the Datai bay. Their yacht and cruises were so popular that everyone knew them as the Crystal people!
In 1997, Jamie and Ryoko moved their yachts to the Awana Porto Malai jetty and began offering daily cruises to tourists and guests from other hotels.
As they were widely known as the Crystal people, they decided to keep and use the propitious name for their new business venture and so Crystal Yacht Holidays was born.
"Everyone remembered us as Crystal so we thought, why not keep this name?"
First Yacht Charter Company on Langkawi to Offer Sunset Cruises
In 1997, Crystal Yacht Holidays was the first yacht charter company on Langkawi and it was also the first to offer the romantic sunset cruises, which Crystal Yacht Holidays is now famous for!
"We don't take things for granted. Every other month, we'll be upgrading and servicing our yachts," Ryoko says. She adds, "We regularly review our cruise packages and find ways to offer more value and memorable experiences to both new customers and returning customers."
"We've been in this cruises and charter business for 19 years now, thanks to amazing seasoned skippers and loyal yacht crew," Jamie says. In fact, they recently welcomed to their team a new skipper, Captain Philip Johnston or Capt Phil, originally from New Zealand but who is now happy to call Langkawi his home after considerable experience sailing the seven seas.
